A mobile court in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, has fined seven traders for keeping shops and businesses open beyond the hours set by the government to save electricity.
The drive was carried out on Tuesday night (September 22) at the main bazar in Nagarkanda upazila. The mobile court was led by Khairul Hasan, the Nagarkanda upazila assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate.
The upazila Palli Bidyut general manager, engineer Sohel Rana Chowdhury, the assistant general manager, engineer Shariful Alam, and members of law enforcement were present during the drive.
A government directive requires shopping malls, markets and other businesses to close after 8pm as part of a national drive to save electricity. The monitoring drive at Nagarkanda bazar was carried out to enforce the directive, and seven traders were fined for keeping their shops open past the set time.
“This drive was carried out to enforce the government’s schedule for saving electricity,” executive magistrate Khairul Hasan said afterwards. “Seven traders were fined for defying the directive. Other traders have also been warned to follow the government’s instructions.”
He added that such monitoring drives will continue regularly in Nagarkanda upazila to enforce the government order.
