Five more people died of dengue in the past 24 hours, health officials said, while 1,110 people were hospitalized with the disease during the same period. The country’s total dengue deaths this year now stand at 107, with 38,280 cases recorded.
The information was released Wednesday in a dengue-related press statement from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services.
The statement said that between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, 110 people were hospitalized in Barishal division, 175 in Chattogram, 171 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 135 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 134 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 190 in Khulna, 65 in Mymensingh, 91 in Rajshahi, 32 in Rangpur and seven in Sylhet division. During the same period, 1,048 patients were discharged after recovering.
The Directorate General of Health Services said this year’s monthly death toll includes two in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Of all dengue cases recorded so far this year, 62.1% have been male and 37.9% female.
