4 more die of dengue

Four more people died of dengue in the past 24 hours nationwide, while 1,314 more were hospitalized with the disease. This brings the total deaths in the first seven days of the month to 24, with the total number of cases rising to 8,058.

The figures were released Monday in a dengue bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.

The bulletin said that between 8 a.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, 153 patients were admitted in Barishal division, 198 in Chattogram, 225 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 139 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 143 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 235 in Khulna, 81 in Mymensingh, 99 in Rajshahi, 36 in Rangpur and 5 in Sylhet division. During the same period, 1,300 patients were discharged after recovering.

The health directorate said the total dengue death toll for the year so far stands at 121, with 43,904 total cases. Of the deaths, two occurred in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Of all confirmed cases so far this year, 62.2% are male and 37.8% are female.
