Bangladesh Bank has extended the loan rescheduling facility for raw jute exporters until September 30. Exporters can reschedule their loans for the next two years by depositing 2 per cent of their outstanding defaulted loans by that date.
The central bank’s Banking Regulation and Policy Department issued a circular on the matter on Thursday.
The decision, effective immediately, was taken because of the problems exporters faced in meeting the conditions of earlier measures taken to resolve difficulties in the raw jute export sector, the circular said.
Because of complications in raw jute exports, borrowers in the sector have still not been able to make the one-off deposit, meet the other conditions and apply to their banks for the rescheduling facility, the circular said. The deadline for raw jute exporters to apply to banks for the facility has therefore been extended. Banks must settle all applications by December 31 after collecting the required down payment.
The rescheduling deadline for raw jute exporters has been extended several times before.
