Friday is the weekly Eid for Muslims and the best day in the sight of Allah. Adam (AS), the first human, was created on this day, and the Day of Judgement will take place on it. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Friday is the best of days and the most honoured in the sight of Allah.” (Ibn Majah, hadith 1084)
The main deed of Friday is performing the Jumu’ah prayer. Describing its importance, Allah says: “O you who believe, when the call is made for prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is best for you, if only you knew.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, verse 9)
On this blessed day the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed a number of deeds and told his companions to do the same. Notable among them are bathing, wearing good clothes, using perfume, going early to the mosque, listening attentively to the sermon (khutba), performing the Jumu’ah prayer with care, making supplication and sending many blessings (durud) on the Prophet.
Of these, the Prophet (PBUH) spoke in particular of sending many blessings on him, because this special Friday deed is presented to him. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Send many blessings on me on Friday, for your blessings are presented to me.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, hadith 1047)
Sending blessings on the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) has great importance and virtue. The Quran says: “Indeed Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings on him and greet him with abundant peace.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 56)
