A Jamaat leader has been injured in Dighalia, Khulna, after a bomb hidden in what appeared to be a packet of puffed rice exploded inside his home.
The blast occurred at the home of 63-year-old MM Monirul Islam near Senhati Koler Pukur early Tuesday, November 3, spreading panic through the area.
Police and local sources said Monirul, president of Jamaat’s Ward No. 7 unit, found a plastic packet containing puffed rice outside his door at about 5:45 a.m. as he returned from Fajr prayers.
Thinking someone had left it there by mistake, he carried the packet inside. It exploded when he placed it on the floor.
Monirul suffered burns to several parts of his body, and furniture caught fire. Residents extinguished the flames and took him to Dighalia Upazila Health Complex.
Dighalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arup Kumar Chowdhury said police collected evidence from the scene. Investigators suspect the device was planted to create fear in the area, he said.
