A Dhaka court has set December 9 as the date for filing the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi. It is the 131st time the investigators have been given more time to submit the report.
The report was due on Thursday. As the investigating agency did not submit it, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam set the new date.
Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam, an officer of the general registration section of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, confirmed the matter.
Sagar Sarowar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented flat in West Rajabazar in the capital on February 11, 2012.
Runi’s brother, Nousher Alam Roman, then filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
On September 30, 2024, the High Court ordered that the investigation be taken away from RAB and carried out by a high-powered task force formed through the Home Ministry.
