President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for vigilance to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) can never control people.
He made the call on Thursday (5 November) at the Bangladesh AI Business Summit at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
“If AI establishes control over people, all of civilisation will be in crisis. So along with the progress of technology, human control and welfare must also be ensured,” he said.
“The world is standing at the door of a great change, and at its core is artificial intelligence, or AI. AI will decide where Bangladesh stands in the world in the days ahead,” the president said.
Stressing that AI must not be allowed to control people, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “If artificial intelligence controls people, all of civilisation will be in crisis.”
Describing young people as the main soldiers of the fourth industrial revolution, the president told business leaders: “If everyone, the young generation included, works together, the dream of a trillion-dollar economy by 2034 can be achieved.”
He also urged them to see AI not as a tool for cutting costs but as a means of creating new products and new jobs.
