The price of gold has risen again in the local market. Under the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk 3,324 a bhori to Tk 224,182, including VAT.

The new prices took effect from 1:45pm on Wednesday (November 4), the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) said in a notice.

The new prices for gold and silver were set because the price of pure (tejabi) gold had risen, the notice said.

Under the new price list, 21-carat gold costs Tk 214,093 a bhori.

Eighteen-carat gold has been set at Tk 183,883 a bhori and gold made by the traditional method at Tk 150,232 a bhori.

The prices will apply at all jewellers in the country until further notice, Bajus said. Making charges may differ depending on the design of the ornament.

Bajus also said that because VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver ornaments, VAT cannot be charged to customers separately.

In addition, when ornaments are exchanged, 12 percent is to be deducted, and 18 percent when they are bought back, excluding making charges and the value of stones. VAT cannot be charged separately in these cases either.

Previously, on the morning of November 2, the price including VAT had been set at Tk 220,858 a bhori for 22-carat gold, Tk 210,943 for 21-carat, Tk 181,200 for 18-carat and Tk 148,016 for gold made by the traditional method.

Silver prices in the local market are unchanged.

Including VAT, 22-carat silver sells at Tk 3,499 a bhori, 21-carat at Tk 3,383, 18-carat at Tk 2,916 and silver made by the traditional method at Tk 2,216.
