Democratic members of Congress may now move to hold the US administration to account over the Iran war. Setting an end to the war and a possible exit strategy will become important for Washington, according to Republican political strategist Amy Frederiksen.
In an interview with Al Jazeera from Minneapolis, Frederiksen said finding a way out of Iran will become very important for the current administration, and there is a chance the president will coordinate with Congress on it.
She said Congress had so far asked few questions about the military operation in Iran, even though, as the institution representing the American people, it is responsible for overseeing the war and ensuring accountability.
According to Frederiksen, most Americans do not want to see Iran as a nuclear-armed state, and the nuclear threat was put forward as one of the reasons for starting the war against Iran.
But she said that although the administration repeatedly announced the war would end soon, the conflict has dragged on. In her words, the public has repeatedly been given information that did not match reality.
Frederiksen said it is Congress’s job to oversee the administration’s actions and ask the necessary questions, and she believes Democrats will now move to do so.
