US President Donald Trump has joked that if Americans become tired of him or angry with him, he will move to Israel and become that country’s prime minister.
Trump said this in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday (November 3), the day of the US midterm elections.
Speaking on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” on election day, Trump said: “My approval rating in Israel is 99 percent. If the people of the United States ever get tired of me, I will go to Israel and become prime minister there.”
In the same interview Trump revealed that he has an agreement with Israel’s current prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, under which Washington will no longer give Israel $4 billion in aid after the end of this year.
According to Trump, Israel no longer needs the aid, and some Democrats and left-wing politicians had been using the funding to Israel as a tool to criticise Republicans.
“Netanyahu and I have reached an understanding on giving money to Israel. We give Israel $4 billion a year. A few months ago we reached an understanding on stopping this aid,” he said.
“We have already agreed that no more money will be given to Israel by the end of this year. But if Israel needs it, we will help,” Trump added.
