Born in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, Sheikh Rahman is Georgia’s first Muslim and first Asian-origin state senator. He has represented the state’s District 5 since he was first elected in 2018. In the 2024 election he was elected senator for the fourth time, defeating Republican candidate Lisa Babbage by nearly double the votes.
In Connecticut’s state senate District 4, Democratic candidate MD Masudur Rahman was re-elected by defeating Republican candidate Jen Jennings. Early results published by the local outlet CT Insider also showed him winning. How many votes he received in total is not yet known.
Masudur Rahman’s ancestral home is in Hajiganj, Chandpur, Bangladesh. He was first elected a Connecticut state senator in 2022, and won a second time in the 2024 election with 33,099 votes.
Bangladeshi-origin Abul Khan has also won from New Hampshire’s Rockingham 30 seat, which elects two representatives. He was ahead with 1,873 votes in the early count and was shown as a winner in later results. Republican candidate Jason Janvrin was also elected from the same seat.
Born in Pirojpur, Bangladesh, Abul Khan is involved in Republican Party politics. According to official New Hampshire legislature records, he has contested elections since 2012 and has served six terms as a member of the state legislature. This win adds another achievement to his long political career.
In the 2024 election, five people of Bangladeshi origin were elected from different US states: Sheikh Rahman, Nabilah Islam Parkes, Nurun Nabi, MD Masudur Rahman and Abul Khan. No information was found on whether Nabilah Islam Parkes and Nurun Nabi stood in the 2026 election, so their results are not included in this list.
