BNP chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined party leaders and activists on foot in the ‘Sovereignty’ rally in the capital on 7 November, National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

He led the rally in the capital today, 7 November.

The prime minister opened the rally in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan shortly after 3pm. With hundreds of thousands of leaders, activists and supporters of the BNP and its affiliated organisations taking part, the rally turned into a sea of people. Activists chanting slogans carried Bangladesh’s red-and-green flags and placards bearing pictures of BNP founder the late President Ziaur Rahman, former prime minister Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.

Starting in front of the BNP central office, the rally passed through Kakrail, beside the chief justice’s residence, Hare Road, Minto Road, the Hotel Intercontinental crossing, Banglamotor and Farmgate, and ended at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the National Parliament building.

Before that, a short rally was held there from 2:45pm to 3:10pm.

Accompanying the prime minister in the rally were BNP acting secretary general advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed; standing committee member and adviser to the prime minister Mirza Abbas; standing committee member and finance and planning minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury; standing committee member and social welfare and children’s affairs minister AZM Dr Zahid Hossain; Amanullah Aman; and Farhad Halim Donar.

Also present were BNP vice chairman and liberation war affairs minister Ahmed Azam Khan; vice chairman and chief whip of parliament Nurul Islam Moni; adviser to the BNP chairman and administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Abdus Salam; BNP joint secretary general and MP Khairul Kabir Khokon; joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel; treasurer and civil aviation and tourism minister Rashiduzzaman Millat; and publicity secretary and state minister for fisheries and livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku.

Leaders and activists of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP and various units of Dhaka division took part in the rally.

The BNP is marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day without hindrance after 20 years. Under the fascist regime, the day was the target of propaganda and distortion of history, and the new generation was kept in the dark about the events of the day, their impact and their historical importance. Since coming to power, the BNP has had the chance to present the true history of the day to the new generation.
