At least 60 workers have died after a mine collapsed in southern Sudan. Two survivors of the incident told the news agency AFP about it on Wednesday. Many more remain missing under the rubble, and they are feared dead.
Various tunnels at the Al-Jara gold mine near the city of El-Nahud in West Kordofan began collapsing on Tuesday. The following morning, 60 bodies were recovered from the site. AFP reported the news from Khartoum.
Khair al-Sayed, a survivor of the incident, said it was not yet known how many more people remained trapped beneath the rubble. He took part in the rescue operation through the night alongside his fellow mine workers.
