Jamiate Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh (Mufti Waqqas group) has made clear that it will never support, as a party or as part of any alliance, any law contrary to the Quran and Sunnah, whether enacted under BNP rule or any other government. The party also said there is no scope for it to make any decision that goes against the opinion of the country’s ulama.
Jamiate Ulamaye Islam secretary general Maulana Dr Golam Mohiuddin Ikram said this in a conversation with an Amar Desh correspondent.
He expressed hope that just as no anti-Islamic law was passed during the late Begum Khaleda Zia’s tenure, that continuity would be maintained under BNP’s current government as well.
Highlighting his party’s full respect and solidarity with the country’s ulama, Dr Golam Mohiuddin Ikram said there was no question or scope for his party to go against the opinion of the country’s ulama. Whatever decision the ulama give, he said, the party would fully and completely agree with it. He further said firmly that if any move were made to enact a law contrary to the Quran and Sunnah, whether under BNP or any other government, Jamiat would under no circumstances support that law.
