The Bangladesh Non-Government Teachers and Staff Forum (Babeshikfo) has petitioned the prime minister to introduce an education allowance for the children of teachers and staff on the Monthly Pay Order (MPO), a government subsidy scheme for non-government schools and colleges.
The application, signed by the organization’s executive secretary-general, Md. Zahirul Islam, was submitted Thursday to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The application said MPO-listed teachers and staff run nearly 97% of the country’s education system from the secondary to the graduate level, and thanked the government for its steps to improve education standards and its attention to MPO staff. However, it said, it was regrettable that while children of various government and non-government officials receive an education allowance, the children of MPO-listed teachers and staff are denied one — a situation the forum said was unacceptable.
The forum requested the prime minister’s favorable attention in taking the steps needed to introduce an education allowance for the children of MPO-listed teachers and staff.
