Iran is preparing a coordinated attack against Israel, with plans to involve Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Gaza’s Hamas, Yemen’s Houthis and Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq to strike from multiple directions simultaneously.

Israeli media outlet the Jerusalem Post reported the information Sunday.

The outlet said Israeli officials learned of Iran’s plan through monitoring the situation.

The Jerusalem Post said various reports in Arab media suggest Iran wants to open multiple fronts against Israel this time — meaning preparations are underway to strike Israel from several directions at once.

To this end, officers of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Quds Force have recently met with commanders of Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq. The report said the meetings discussed escalating tensions.

Lessons from 2023

On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas launched a major attack on Israeli territory. Iran and Hezbollah were not informed of the attack beforehand; Hamas carried it out alone.

During that Hamas attack, Iran and Hezbollah did not launch a coordinated joint strike. The Jerusalem Post report said this factor is being taken into account in the planning for any potential attack this time.
