A collision has occurred between a Pakistani navy vessel and an Indian navy vessel in international waters. Following the incident, New Delhi summoned Pakistan’s charge d’affaires, Saad Ahmed Warraich.
The Pakistani vessel was manoeuvring fast and unsafely close to an Indian warship that was on patrol duty. At one point, the two vessels collided around 220 kilometres east of the Omani coast. No major damage was reported.
India alleges that the conduct of the Pakistani vessel was “unacceptable and unprofessional,” and in violation of Article 10 of the 1991 India-Pakistan agreement. The Pakistani diplomat was asked to caution the relevant authorities to prevent a repeat of such an incident in future.
This is not the first such incident. In June 2011, the Pakistani navy’s Babur and the Indian warship INS Godavari were involved in a similar encounter.
