Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said the conflict between Iran and the United States should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation, not guns and cannons. He said the tense situation in the Middle East has severely damaged the security of countries in the region.
Al Jazeera reported on Sept. 8 that Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. His comments were included in an official summary released by China’s Foreign Ministry after the meeting. Wang Yi said the ongoing tensions are not only undermining regional stability but also affecting energy markets, shipping and supply chains. In his words, the tensions “continue to affect the stability of energy markets, shipping and supply systems.” He said, “Applying pressure through guns and cannons will not produce a solution. Dialogue and negotiation are the right path.”
At the meeting, the Chinese foreign minister also praised Qatar’s mediation efforts, thanking the country for its initiative in establishing peace. Wang Yi added that he is eager to maintain communication and coordination with Qatar on various international and regional issues.
