Criminals posing as members of the Detective Branch (DB) police robbed a bank agent of 1.2 million taka in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila. The incident occurred around midday today, Monday, in front of the M Mojidia Government Primary School in Ward No. 1 of Charhazari union. The robbers handcuffed the bank agent at gunpoint during the robbery.
The victim bank agent is Abdur Rahman, in-charge of Islami Bank’s Abu Modina outlet agent branch and an agent-banking businessman. Abdur Rahman alleged that between around 11:30 a.m. and noon today, he had withdrawn 1.2 million taka in cash from the bank branch and was heading to his destination on a motorcycle. When he reached the west side of the M Mojidia Government Primary School in Charhazari Ward No. 1, a group of five criminals lying in wait in a private car blocked his path.
Abdur Rahman alleged that the criminals identified themselves as Detective Branch (DB) police. They then claimed he was carrying drugs. At one point, they pressed a pistol against his body, handcuffed him and forced him into the car. Inside the vehicle, his eyes and mouth were bound with a gamcha and he was beaten. He was then robbed of the 1.2 million taka at gunpoint. After the robbery, the criminals dumped him, with his hands and eyes still bound, near Nabir Dokan in Kabirhat upazila before fleeing.
Local residents said Abdur Rahman had been riding his motorcycle wearing a white panjabi. Five men in black jackets and plain clothes surrounded him, showed weapons, and forced him into a private car. A short while later, residents learned that Abdur Rahman had been robbed and that 1.2 million taka had been taken from him.
Companiganj police station officer-in-charge Md Nurul Hakim said that as soon as the report came in, law enforcement began a preliminary investigation, including analyzing CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas. He said police operations and investigations are continuing to confirm who was involved, identify and catch the perpetrators, and recover the money. However, he said, the victim had not yet filed a written complaint or formal case as of that time. Further legal action will be taken once a written complaint is received.
