Three autorickshaw passengers have been killed after being run over by a truck in Gazipur. Three others were injured. The identities of the dead and injured could not be immediately confirmed.
The accident happened on Wednesday afternoon in the Dhirashram area of Gazipur city.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Sadar police station, confirmed the incident.
Eyewitnesses said a speeding truck ran over an autorickshaw heading from Tongi towards Joydebpur from behind. Two people died on the spot. Another, who was critically injured, died after being taken to hospital.
“Three people were killed and three injured when the truck ran over the autorickshaw in the Dhirashram area,” Aminul Islam said. “Police were sent to the scene on receiving the news. Work is under way to identify the dead and injured. All three of the dead are men. They are initially believed to have been passengers on the autorickshaw.”
“The truck driver has been detained and the truck seized after the accident,” he said. “The incident will be investigated and legal action taken.”
