The Kushtia District Council has stood by the grieving family of journalist Debashish Dutta, who died in a hotel fire in Kolkata, India.
Kushtia District Council Administrator and freedom fighter Principal Sohrab Uddin visited Debashish’s home in the town’s Aruapara area Monday afternoon.
He handed the late journalist’s father a financial-assistance check on behalf of the district council and expressed his deep condolences to the family.
Also present were Kushtia District Council acting Chief Executive Officer Md Abdul Hai Siddiqui, Kushtia court Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Shamim Ul Hasan Apu, Kushtia Journalists Union organizing secretary Nurunnabi Babu and publicity secretary Shahria Emon Rubel. Expressing solidarity with the late journalist’s family, freedom fighter Principal Sohrab Uddin said: “Journalist Debashish’s untimely and tragic death is deeply heartbreaking. This irreparable loss can never truly be made up. But standing by his family in this difficult time is our moral duty.”
