Iranian authorities have seized the property of 240 people accused of involvement with Israel and other “hostile states.” The country’s state broadcaster IRIB reported the information.
Iran’s judiciary said the accused were involved in “propaganda activities” or other actions against the country, resulting in “extensive damage” to the country’s infrastructure.
An Iranian justice ministry spokesperson told IRIB: “This property belongs to the Iranian people. The judiciary will take the necessary steps to use this property to compensate those who were harmed.”
Last year, Iran further tightened its espionage-related law. That law provides for the death penalty and confiscation of all property for those accused of assisting the United States, Israel, or any other “hostile” state or group.
Under the law, actions ranging from “legitimising” Israel to supplying images or information to foreign networks can also be treated as crimes.
