Iran has formed an “economic war” task force aimed at addressing financial problems stemming from the ongoing conflict, the country’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
The task force, established under the Finance Ministry, is intended to bring coordination and speed to resolving economic problems arising from the war situation.
Iranian Deputy Economy Minister Morteza Zamaniyan said the ministry is working to quickly identify and resolve issues that have emerged in business, trade, financing and other economic areas.
Zamaniyan said the task force would initially prioritize matters within the ministry’s own authority and jurisdiction, working to resolve, as quickly as possible and within the ministry’s capacity, problems that have emerged in various institutions, trade, financing and other sectors of the economy due to the war.
He noted, however, that some issues could fall outside the ministry’s sole jurisdiction. In those cases, the ministry’s role within the government’s broader economic policymaking framework would be used, including the government’s Economic Commission and Economic Headquarters. Through these structures, coordination among various government agencies would help advance important matters quickly to the highest levels of government.
Another key goal of the task force is to ensure that any problem requiring coordinated action among multiple government agencies does not get stuck in bureaucratic complications. Through this, necessary coordination among various agencies will be used to quickly address the wartime economic crisis.
Iran’s economy is under intense pressure from decades of sanctions and the current war. In an effort to further isolate Tehran, the United States imposed additional sanctions on the country earlier this week.
