Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Chowdhury is leaving Leicester City to join Sheffield United on a permanent deal. This brings his 21-year relationship with Leicester to an end.
The 28-year-old midfielder is returning to Bramall Lane. He previously played on loan for Sheffield United in the 2024-25 season, making 16 appearances for the Blades during that spell.
Leicester City said in a statement: “After 21 years at Leicester City, Hamza Chowdhury is joining Sheffield United on a permanent deal. Chowdhury previously played for the Blades on loan, where he made 16 appearances in the 2024-25 season. We wish you all the best, Hamza.”
Hamza joined Leicester’s academy as a child. He went on to play 165 matches for the club. He won the FA Cup in 2021 and the Championship title in 2024.
His permanent move also carries significance for Bangladesh, as his career has become quite meaningful for Bangladeshi football.
Born in Loughborough, England, Hamza’s mother is Bangladeshi. He previously played for England’s under-21 team before choosing to represent Bangladesh in international football.
Hamza made his debut for Bangladesh in a goalless draw against India in March 2025. Since then, he has played 10 matches for Bangladesh, scoring four goals.
