Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid cruised to a 4-1 win over German club RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu. The win will boost Real’s confidence before they face Barcelona in the season’s first El Clasico.
The hosts controlled the match from the start. Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande scored for Real, while Tidiam Gomis got Leipzig’s only goal.
Leipzig created some good chances in the first half, but Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois kept the visitors out. The Belgian goalkeeper produced fine saves to deny Romulo’s shot in the 28th minute and a chance for Christopher Nkunku in the 41st.
Real went ahead late in the first half. In the 43rd minute the Leipzig goalkeeper parried Arda Guler’s shot, and Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva put the rebound into the net. It was his first goal in a Real shirt. The hosts went into the break a goal up.
Real extended their lead early in the second half. In the 52nd minute Mbappe headed on a cross from Jude Bellingham to Arda Guler, and the young Turkish player finished perfectly.
Kylian Mbappe made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute, taking a pass from Yan Diomande and curling a shot into the net. It was the French forward’s 12th goal in 12 matches this season.
Two minutes later, in the 85th minute, substitute Tidiam Gomis pulled one back for Leipzig. But Real ended any hope of a comeback. In the 87th minute Yan Diomande scored the fourth with a spectacular volley from a precise Brahim Diaz cross to seal a 4-1 win.
The win gives Real Madrid three Champions League wins in a row. Los Blancos are third in the table, behind on goal difference. Leipzig, who have conceded 10 goals in two matches, have dropped to 29th.
After the Champions League win, Real now turn their attention to their old rivals Barcelona. The two Spanish giants meet in the season’s first El Clasico on Sunday night.
