A devastating fire in Chattogram’s Hathazari has completely burned down the homes of five families. The intensity of the fire also partially damaged another house. The blaze caused an estimated 4 to 5 lakh taka in damage.
The fire broke out around noon on Wednesday (September 16) in the Sompara area, west of Sarkarhat bazar, in Ward No. 3 of the upazila’s Mirzapur union. The five families affected by the fire are those of Milon Dey, Tapu Dey, Prova Rani Nath, Tapan Nath and Khokon Nath.
Locals said the fire suddenly started in one house around midday. Within moments, it spread to the surrounding houses. The intensity of the blaze completely burned down the homes of the five families, while another house was partially damaged.
On being informed, members of the Hathazari Fire Service reached the scene and worked to bring the fire under control. Their efforts eventually contained the blaze. Hathazari Fire Service senior station officer Abdul Mannan said the fire is initially believed to have started from an electrical short circuit at a meter. The fire caused an estimated 4 to 5 lakh taka in damage.
