Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy has warned that it will respond if a US warship comes within 100 kilometres of the Strait of Hormuz. The statement directly challenges US President Donald Trump’s claim that the United States controls the strait.
According to a report by Iran’s Fars news agency, the IRGC navy’s deputy political commander said: “If the Strait of Hormuz is under US control, then come forward — bring one of your warships within 100 kilometres.”
He said US forces already know how Iranian forces would respond if a US warship approached the area, adding that similar incidents had occurred in the past few days as well.
