The High Court has published its full verdict acquitting Amir Hossain, alias Jamal, who had been sentenced to death over the rape and murder of a young girl in Hathazari, Chattogram, 21 years ago.
The full verdict was released on Wednesday morning. The court said Amir Hossain had been arrested instead of the main accused, who was never caught.
On September 1, the High Court acquitted Amir Hossain, who had been sentenced to death in the case, 21 years after the killing. It also ordered his swift release from the condemned cell.
On February 10, 2019, the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 sentenced Amir Hossain to death for the rape and murder of the child.
According to the case, on May 16, 2005, the girl went to visit her paternal aunt’s house in Mekhal village of Hathazari upazila. The accused, Amir Hossain, worked at the house as a day labourer.
