Wes J. Bryant, a former Pentagon official who was responsible for assessing civilian casualties, has said the United States is deliberately targeting civilians in Iran.
Bryant, who now works as a war-crimes analyst, sharply criticized the U.S. strike on a wedding celebration in southern Iran in an interview with Al Jazeera.
He said the strike reflects the “moral and legal standards” typically applied by the U.S. Defense Department and the Trump administration.
Asked whether the United States is deliberately targeting civilians in Iran, Bryant answered: “Yes.”
The U.S. military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed it does not target civilians.
But Bryant rejected that claim, saying the United States is “recklessly and negligently endangering and killing civilians” in its military operations against Iran.
Drawing on his own professional experience, the former Pentagon official said the location of every target is documented at multiple levels of the chain of command.
He also said the U.S. strike on a wedding celebration in Hormozgan province is comparable to a U.S. strike on the “Shajare Tayyeba School” in Minab. Five people were reported killed in the Hormozgan strike.
