Pakistan has extended the closure of its airspace to Indian flights until October 23. The Pakistan Airports Authority has issued a notice on the matter.
According to the notice, the ban applies to all India-registered aircraft, as well as aircraft operated or leased by Indian airlines or operators, including military flights. The airspace closure was initially decided on April 23, 2023. This latest notice is the 17th issued to extend the restriction.
Tensions between the two countries rose after the attack in Pahalgam, in India’s Jammu and Kashmir. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack. Islamabad firmly denied the allegation and demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the incident.
After Pakistan imposed the ban on Indian aviation, India also closed its own airspace to Pakistani airlines on April 30. Tensions rose further when India struck several Pakistani cities on May 6 and 7, 2025, prompting Pakistan to launch a counter-operation in response. After roughly 87 hours of conflict, the two nuclear-armed neighbours agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, brokered by the United States.
