Pakistani security forces say they killed 15 India-backed militants attempting to infiltrate the country. The claim was made Thursday by the country’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate.
ISPR said a group of Fitna al-Khawarij militants was detected attempting to cross into Pakistan on the night between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. A roughly 36-hour operation followed, in which 15 militants were killed. A subsequent search recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, according to the military.
The operation was carried out along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border opposite North Waziristan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistan’s military said the Afghan Taliban government has failed to take effective action to stop cross-border terrorism carried out using Afghan territory. ISPR also accused the Afghan side of failing to manage the border and meet its international obligations.
