One of the biggest indicators of a star player’s popularity is how many jerseys carrying their name sell. In Bangladesh too, recent national team jersey sales figures show the huge interest Hamza Chowdhury has generated among supporters.
Since Hamza, who plays for English Championship club Sheffield United, took the field in Bangladesh’s jersey, fresh excitement has built around the country’s football. That has been reflected in national team jersey sales too. Among Bangladeshi footballers, jerseys carrying Hamza’s name and number are currently the best sellers.
Nearly 5,000 Hamza Chowdhury jerseys have been sold over the past 18 months. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) signed a kit sponsorship deal with Dour in February 2025. Sales of the national team jersey saw little response initially, but the situation changed rapidly once Hamza joined the Bangladesh squad.
According to Dour, the company has sold around 35,000 national team jerseys over the past 18 months. More than 20 percent of those carried a specific player’s name and number. Hamza leads that list by far. Around 5,000 supporters have had Hamza’s name and number added to the official jersey, priced at 1,400 taka.
Behind Hamza in sales are national team captain Jamal Bhuiyan and expatriate midfielder Shomit Shom.
Dour’s chief executive officer, Abid Alam Chowdhury, said demand for the national team jersey has risen significantly since Hamza’s arrival in Bangladesh. In his words, around 5,000 Hamza jerseys have sold over the past 18 months, and his arrival has generated fresh enthusiasm for football in the country.
Amid the huge demand for Hamza’s jersey, Dour has also unveiled a new design for the national team jersey. Supporter interest in the new jersey has also been quite positive, with more than a thousand orders already received.
The excitement built around Hamza is therefore not confined to his personal jersey alone; interest in the national team jersey overall is growing too.
The SAFF Championship is scheduled to be held on Bangladeshi soil this November. Dour expects demand for jerseys to rise further ahead of that tournament, with the company aiming to sell 100,000 national team jerseys within a year.
Supporters also took part in designing the new jersey. According to Abid Alam, around 1,300 designs were received from Bangladeshi football fans around the world, from which 34 elements were selected to create the final jersey design.
The home jersey’s core concept centres on the Bangla mother tongue. Built with special technology and design, one of its key features is the ability to dry sweat within just eight minutes.
The player-issue jersey is priced at 1,600 taka, while the supporter version costs 700 taka.
