After a long wait, National University is preparing to hold its second convocation. The ceremony will take place on January 23. The university’s chancellor, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has agreed to attend.
The announcement came in a press release on Monday (September 21).
According to the release, a delegation led by National University vice-chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah paid a courtesy call on the president at Bangabhaban on Sunday (September 20) in connection with the convocation.
During the meeting the vice-chancellor formally invited the president to attend National University’s second convocation as chancellor. The president accepted the invitation and agreed to be present. He also gave the necessary guidance on completing the arrangements smoothly and properly.
Following the president’s agreement, university authorities have begun preparations for the ceremony. Who the convocation speaker will be, who will have the opportunity to take part and the other details of the arrangements will be announced shortly through a press conference.
The chance to hold a convocation has come after a long interval at this university, which is tied to the higher education of students at about 2,500 colleges across the country. For many students it is therefore not merely a formality but the formal recognition of an important chapter in a long educational life.
National University held its first convocation on January 17, 2017, 25 years after the institution was founded. The second convocation now comes a decade after the first.
