Woman found dead at rented Chuadanga home, family questions circumstances

Police have recovered the body of a woman from a rented house in the Railpara area of Chuadanga municipality. The woman, identified as Jahanara, 50, was found dead Saturday, August 29, and her body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

Relatives are divided over whether her death was a suicide or something else, and police have opened an investigation to establish the exact cause.

Jahanara was the wife of Md Jamal Sheikh of Chuadanga town’s Masjidpara area. She had been living with her husband as a tenant at the house of Md Toufiqul Islam Joarder in the Railpara area for the past eight months.

According to police and local sources, Jahanara was found dead Saturday morning inside the rented house.

Her husband, Jamal Sheikh, said Jahanara had long suffered from complex health problems, including issues with her gallbladder, liver and stomach, and had previously undergone multiple surgeries. He said she may have taken her own life after being unable to bear prolonged physical suffering and mental distress.

However, the woman’s relatives are not convinced it was a simple suicide. Police said there had been ongoing family tensions, including friction between Jahanara and her daughter-in-law. Her brothers have voiced suspicion that there may be another cause behind her death.

Chuadanga Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Maruf Rahman said the woman had been suffering from long-term health complications and that there had also been some family discord. Because relatives raised doubts about the circumstances of her death, he said, authorities decided to order an autopsy to determine the actual cause. He said the exact cause of death would become clear once the autopsy report is available.
