The death toll from the collapse of a six-storey building in Gaza City has risen to 20, including five children. Displaced Palestinians were staying inside the building when it collapsed, while several others had taken shelter in a nearby tent.
Gaza’s Civil Defence agency says many people may still be trapped under the rubble. Gaza’s health ministry director-general, Munir al-Bursh, told Al Jazeera the building had earlier been damaged by Israeli bombing. It later collapsed following shelling in the surrounding area, burying both those inside the building and the displaced people sheltering in the nearby tent.
According to al-Bursh, around 100 people remain missing. Relatives have so far registered the names of more than 75 missing individuals, of whom about 50 are children.
