A pedestrian named Rafiqul Islam, 45, has been killed after being struck by a motorcycle in Khulna’s Koyra. The rider and two others were injured in the incident. It took place around 8pm on Wednesday (September 16) near Islampur crossing in the upazila’s Bagali union.
The deceased, Rafiqul, was the son of the late Jamil Uddin Sana of Gopirayer Bed area, adjacent to Islampur crossing. The injured are Md Rayhan Gazi, son of Billal Gazi of Radhuli village, Paikgacha upazila; Antor Mondol, son of Sandip Mondol of Kathipara (Banka) village; and Md Hridoy Hossain, son of Aziz Sardar of the same area.
Local sources said the group had set off by motorcycle from the Banka Bazar area of Paikgacha upazila to see a tree fair being held at Kachharibari in Koyra upazila’s Uttar Bedkashi union. When they reached the Islampur crossing area, the motorcycle lost control and struck Rafiqul. The group was seriously injured in the process. Locals rescued them and took them to the upazila health complex, where the duty doctor declared Rafiqul dead. The injured are receiving treatment at the health complex.
Upazila health complex resident medical officer (RMO) Dr Sujit Kumar Boidya said: “Rafiqul had already died before being brought to the hospital. The three injured have been given treatment.” Koyra police station OC Md Rashedul Alam said police visited the scene the same night after learning of the accident. The victim’s body has been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
