Avalanche kills 11 climbers in Caucasus Mountains

An avalanche in Russia’s remote Caucasus Mountains killed 11 members of a climbing group, with six still missing. Rescue authorities said Monday that a group of 33 climbers was caught in the landslide.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said an avalanche in the Bezengi gorge on Sunday “tragically killed 11 people and injured six.”

The ministry said 10 climbers were able to safely make their way down. Six others remain missing.
