Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Muslim community to keep pace with artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology. He warned that a lack of knowledge about AI could leave Muslims vulnerable to outside influence.
He made the remarks Sunday at an award ceremony in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. Anwar said religious and moral values must be preserved alongside technological progress.
Anwar said religious scholars need to understand the “new realities and challenges” of the present era, including modern technology, new science, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
The Malaysian prime minister travelled to Kerala on Sunday after attending the BRICS summit in New Delhi. At the event there, India’s Grand Mufti and prominent Sunni scholar Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar presented Anwar Ibrahim with an “Excellence Award.”
