Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its forces attacked two US ships and eight oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, Al Jazeera reported, citing Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The report said the strikes were carried out in response to a US attack on five Iranian oil tankers. The statement referred to US forces as the “terrorist American military.”

The IRGC also said it had targeted 10 other “violating vessels,” which it accused of attempting, at the United States’ “instigation and support,” to enter a “prohibited and unsafe area” of the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz remains under its “powerful and authoritative surveillance and control.”
