Friday holds a special, dignified place in the life of Muslims. It is not simply a day of work or rest, but a wonderful opportunity for worship, supplication and self-purification. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described Jumu’ah (Friday) as the best of all days. A believer should therefore fill the day with good deeds.

Recite the Quran after Fajr

It is best to begin the day with Quran recitation. Reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday in particular carries special merit. According to hadith, reciting Surah Al-Kahf on this day illuminates a person with light between the two Fridays.

Send abundant blessings on the Prophet

Sending durood (blessings) upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) carries great importance on Fridays. The day can be made blessed through dhikr and durood while walking, during breaks at work or in moments of leisure.

Cleanliness and preparation

Bathing before Friday prayers, wearing clean clothes and using perfume are part of the sunnah. This keeps the body clean while also expressing special respect for the day of Jumu’ah.

Go to the mosque early

If possible, one should arrive at the mosque well before the Friday congregation begins. It is best to spend that time attentively in voluntary prayer, Quran recitation and dhikr. Full attention must be given during the khutbah (sermon), and one must refrain from speaking of any kind.

Seek the hour when prayers are accepted

There is a particular time on Friday when a servant’s prayers are especially likely to be accepted. According to scholars, the period between Asr and sunset is a highly probable time for prayers to be answered. One should therefore pray for one’s own and others’ wellbeing during this time.

Self-reflection and repentance

On this special day of the week, it is important to reflect on past mistakes and shortcomings, and to repent for one’s past sins.
