A mosque has been damaged in Saudi Arabia’s southern Jazan province after a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck the area. Two people were wounded in the incident. Several buildings and vehicles in the area were also damaged, civil defence authorities said.
The mosque was damaged Saturday (September 12) when a missile fired by Houthi militia struck the Al-Tuwal area of Saudi Arabia’s Jazan province. Alongside the mosque, other nearby buildings and vehicles were also damaged when the Houthi missile struck the area, wounding two people. A civil defence team reached the scene and took the standard emergency measures for such incidents.
A civil defence spokesperson said attacks on civilian installations, including mosques, are a clear violation of international humanitarian law. The Iran-backed Houthis are fighting against Yemen’s Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government. The group claimed it targeted a Saudi military base in the Sharurah area of southern Najran province, saying it used ballistic missiles and drones in the attack.
