Local people in Raipur, Lakshmipur, have detained a young man named Saiful Islam with yaba tablets and handed him over to police.
He was caught on Thursday morning (September 24) near the Jobedulla Chowkidar Bari in Ward 9 of Bamni union in the upazila, where he lives.
Locals said several people, led by upazila Chhatra Dal office secretary Shanto Islam, chased Saiful and caught him over allegations that he was selling yaba. They claim 50 yaba tablets were then found on him.
During questioning by locals, Saiful said he had bought the yaba from a local man, the locals claimed.
On hearing the news, Bamni union BNP general secretary Baharul Alam went to the scene and informed police, who then took Saiful into custody.
“We have zero tolerance for drugs,” said Raipur police station officer-in-charge Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan. “He has been sent to court. Legal action will be taken after investigating who else is involved with him.”
