Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mohammad Suhada Osman, paid a courtesy call on opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman. The two met Thursday morning at the opposition leader’s official residence on Minto Road in the capital. The high commissioner was accompanied by embassy First Secretary Faiz bin Mohammad Mokhtar and Hazwan bin Hasnol.
Party sources said the courtesy meeting featured a sincere and open exchange of views on matters of mutual interest to Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The two sides emphasized further strengthening the existing friendly and historic ties between the countries and expanding areas of bilateral cooperation. The high commissioner praised Jamaat’s positive role as the opposition in parliament. They also discussed Malaysia’s potential role in helping resolve Bangladesh’s energy crisis and the Rohingya repatriation issue in detail.
The discussion covered various important matters, including issues of mutual interest, development and progress for both countries. Both sides expressed hope that the cordial relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia would grow stronger and that cooperation and progress would continue in all areas.
Also present at the meeting were the opposition leader’s foreign affairs adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the opposition leader’s foreign affairs advisory committee.
