Storm Boyle has swept across the United Kingdom with strong winds, heavy rain and flash flooding, killing at least two people and severely disrupting daily life. Around 90,000 households were still without power late on Sunday, 25 October, local time.

Both deaths were caused by trees falling during the storm. Police said a man aged 60 died after being trapped under an uprooted tree in the Dumfries area of Scotland, while a man in his twenties was killed in north London when a tree fell on the car he was driving. Two women injured by falling trees were taken to hospital.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England were hit hardest, with gusts reaching 135 km/h. Some parts of Scotland received about a third of a normal month’s rainfall in two days.
