A fire broke out in the North Block complex next to the parliament building in Delhi. The important British-era administrative building houses the offices of India’s union home and finance ministries. Black smoke was seen rising from the building.

At least six fire service units reached the scene after reports of the black smoke.

The situation was later brought under control. According to police, renovation work was under way on the roof of the government building.

An old plastic water tank on the roof had caught fire, but workers were able to put it out themselves.
