Teachers and employees of MPO-listed private educational institutions are taking to the streets, demanding a gazette notification of the new pay scale, the results of their transfer applications and a full festival allowance. Their movement will begin with a sit-in on 4 November.
Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi, member secretary of the MPO-listed Education Nationalisation Aspirants Alliance, confirmed this to the media on Monday.
On transfers, he said almost a month and a half had passed since applications were taken, but no results had been published. Teachers working hundreds of kilometres from home were suffering badly as a result, he said, and the results must be published immediately to end this needless hardship.
On the pay scale, Azizi said government employees were being paid under the ninth pay scale from this month, but it was still unclear when MPO-listed teachers and staff would benefit from it. To end that uncertainty, he said, the government must immediately issue instructions to implement the pay scale for them.
He also called the token festival allowance paid to MPO-listed teachers a gross discrimination, and said this long-standing gap must be closed at once by paying them a full festival allowance at the coming Eid, as government teachers receive.
To press these three demands, MPO-listed teachers and staff will hold a central sit-in in Dhaka on 4 November.
