Two children, Huzaifa, 9, and Isa Ali, 10, drowned in a pond in Magura municipality.
It happened in the Baliar Math area of ward 4 of the municipality on Monday (26 October) afternoon.
Huzaifa was the son of Emon Biswas of Mollapara village, and Isa Ali the son of Antor Biswas of the same village.
Relatives said the two boys went to play at Baliar Math in Mollapara on Monday afternoon and fell into a pond beside it. Locals pulled them out and took them to the 250-bed Magura hospital, where Harashit Biswas, a doctor in the emergency department, examined them and declared both dead.
Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the police station, said he had been told of the two children’s deaths by drowning. The bodies have been kept at the temporary morgue of Magura Sadar Hospital. Legal procedures are under way, and the bodies will be handed to the families after a case is filed, he said.
