Members of a BNP faction held a protest and human chain in Chatmohar, Pabna, alleging irregularities and corruption in the appointment of fertilizer dealers in four unions.

The human chain was held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 2, at the upazila council premises in the municipal town.

Speakers alleged that people connected to families affiliated with the previous Awami League government were unlawfully appointed as fertilizer dealers through large bribes and corruption. They said genuine and experienced fertilizer traders had been excluded through serious irregularities.

They demanded the immediate cancellation of the disputed dealerships and the appointment of genuine, experienced traders. They also called for a proper investigation into irregularities and corruption in the appointment process and for legal action.

Speakers included Chatmohar upazila BNP senior vice-president Principal Mahmudul Alam Mahmud, former municipal BNP convener A M Zakaria, former upazila BNP joint convener Rabiul Karim Tarek and former union chairmen Nazir Sarker and Golam Mawla. Former union BNP conveners Md Afsar Ali Navy, Dr Saiful Islam and Yasin Ali also spoke.
