DHAKA — Sharif Uddin Juwel, a BNP nomination hopeful for Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur) and convener of Dhaka North City Jubo Dal, said the people’s votes will determine the country’s leadership, and that attempts to derail or disrupt the election will fail.
He said the election will be held on schedule and the people will elect their preferred candidates through voting.
Juwel made the remarks Saturday evening after inaugurating two BNP regional offices in Boyalia Bazar and Shehala area of Boyalia union in Daulatpur upazila, taking part in two consecutive yard meetings. He exchanged views with local leaders, activists and residents on the current political situation, public expectations and future development plans.
Juwel said the people are now well aware and know that no political party can survive through chaos or conspiracy. The people want peace, stability and development, he said, and they want to preserve the continuity of democracy. He added that those creating confusion and trying to spoil the election environment are actually pushing the people aside.
At the meeting, he distributed leaflets on the implementation of acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman’s declared 31-point state reform agenda. He also presented the benefits of the 31 points to ordinary people and called for votes for the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol.
Local leaders and activists said Juwel has been by the side of Daulatpur residents for a long time and has been working tirelessly to keep young people united. They said they believe he will earn the trust of Daulatpur voters in the upcoming election.
After the yard meetings, Juwel met with residents and listened to their problems. He promised that if he receives the BNP nomination and is elected by popular vote, he will build Daulatpur into a modern, educated and prosperous upazila.
Local youths said the country needs leaders like Juwel who view politics as a tool to serve the people and who know how to work with people at the grassroots.
Leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and the Volunteer Party attended the meetings. They called for maintaining a peaceful environment in the upcoming election and stressed active participation in the democratic process.
